Huining Ato village Chairman killed

In an apparent case of inter-village feud, the chairman of Huining Ato village of Ukhrul district was reportedly found murdered after he along with the village secretary were allegedly abducted by villagers of Halang Aze villagers around 9.30 am today.
VR Abner (55) chairman of Huining Ato under Ukhrul Police station along with his secretary, VS Shimdhar (60) was allegedly abducted by the villagers of Halang Aze today while the Huining Ato village was holding a public meeting at the chairman's residence discussing internal matters of the village.
The village elders of Huining Ato informed the media that H Aze villagers abducted the chairman and secretary at around 9.30 am.
The matter was immediately reported to the Ukhrul Police station.
The police team led by Nehemia, SDPO, Ukhrul reached the village at around 1 pm.
After verbal assurance from acting Headman of Halang Aze for safe release of the abducted Chairman and secretary, the police team left the village.
Later at around 4 pm, the Chairman was found murdered and the corpse was found lying at the residence of acting village headman HL Chinaoyo.
At the same time, the whereabouts of the abducted secretary is still not known.
The matter has been highlighted to the apex body of the Tangkhuls, TNL seeking its intervention for the safe release of the abducted village leader.
Eye-witnesses said that more than 400 villagers including village authority members of Halang Aze village armed with lethal weapons came to the residence of Chairman and forced their way into the meeting venue.
They then took away the Chairman and the Secretary in front of the villagers.
It has also been said that the houses of Aze village chairman, Abner and Secretary, Shimdar were dismantled by Halang Aze villagers in 2013 .
When enquired, it has also been learnt that the Huining Ato villagers were discussing internal land dispute at the meeting today.
Meanwhile, the villagers have strongly condemned the barbaric act while demanding fitting legal action against them.
