Imphal, February 10 2014:
Claiming responsibility for the abduction of Mathotmi Chahong, the Secretary of Island Tangkhul Village on the night of February 7, Kuki National Front (Nehlun)/KNF (N) has clarified that the abduction of Mathotmi which was carried out by a special task force unit of the armed outfit was not for ransom demand at all.
The abduction was directly related to the July 2013 incident in his Mathotmi took the responsibility and appended his signature on the Letter Head of the negotiated amount of Rs 20 Lakhs to be paid by the contractor, out of which Rs 15 Lakhs was paid at the time and the remaining Rs 5 Lakhs was supposed to be paid later within a two months' time.
However, Mathotmi pretended to be innocent and run away from the issue despite several reminders.
Therefore, there was no any other option for permanent solution to the issue rather than his abduction, KNF (N) said in a statement signed by its Information and Publicity Secretary Gogou Vaiphei.
So, it is very unfortunate that a matured CSO and student body like UNC and TNVSA have come out with press notes to spread hatred among the two communities (Kukis and Nagas) without any investigation or enquiry into the matter, the statement of KNF (N) said, while appealing to all not to communalise the issue.
Abduction of Mathotmi Chahong has nothing to do with ransom demand or he being a Tangkhul, but to fulfil the pending negotiation of July 2013.Mathotmi is in good health in the custody of KNF (N) and his early release is purely in the hands of all concerned, Gogou Vaiphei observed.
KNF (N) has also asked MLA Yamthong Haokip not to hide behind the screen and stop his alleged instigation policy for political gain.
