Imphal, February 10 2014:
Public bears the brunt of the cease work strike launched by several Municipal Councils of the State since December last year.
To put across their demand for implementation of sixth pay commission recommendation, 380 employees Imphal, Thoubal, Kakching, Mayang Imphal, Nambol, Bishnupur, Ningthoukhong and Jiribam Municipal Councils launched cease work strike from December 17 last year.
Garbages heaped up at the townships as employees of the Municipal Councils abstain from daily chores.
This has caused much inconveniences to the public, especially at Khwairamband Keithel under IMC, who are thronging the markets for business purposes.
The general secretary of the Coordination Committee of nine Municipal Councils, Ph Chaoba Singh said that the State Government has been urged many times to implement the 6th pay commission.
Many memorandums have been submitted.
A representation was also submitted to the Vice President of Indian National Congress, Rahul Gandhi on Feb 6 .
Ph Chaoba, who is participating in the sit-in protest in front of the IMC Gate, said that the Govt resorted to engaging daily labourers to dump piled-up garbages from Khwairamband Keithel on irregular basis instead of fulfilling the demand raised by the employees.
Expressing strong dissatisfaction to the move of the authority concerned, Chaoba said that it would be better for the Govt to terminate the service of the employees than resorting to such move of engaging daily labourers to execute the works of the municipal council employees.
