World Rivers Day observed

As observed across the globe, Lions Club International District 322D, Lions Club of Imphal City and Lions Club of Wangjing today celebrated World Rivers Day 2022 at Heirok Part-II Chinggol Community Hall.
The programme organised in collaboration with Wildlife & Biodiversity Conservation Committee (WBCC), Manipur and Eco Network, Heirok was attended by District 322D governor, Lion Dr W Gopimohon Singh; vice district governor District 322D, Lion Th Kesho Singh; District coordinator-GST, Lion Joy Singh Oinam; Lions Club of Imphal City president, Lion Th Ibomcha Singh; PHED Thoubal Division team leader, L Romen Meitei; Ningol Club Heirok president Sophiya Khundongbam and City Club Heirok president Ningthoujam Ibomcha Singh as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, River Pollution Control River Bank district chairperson, Lion Th Mohendra Pratap stated that the programme was conducted with the aim to keep the rivers clean.
He continued that World Rivers Day is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of September every year to increase public awareness about rivers and to encourage their conservation.
Highlighting the role of the public and CSOs in conserving the rivers, Lion Dr W Gopimohon said, "Rivers in virtually every country face an array of threats, and only through our active involvement can we ensure their health in the years ahead" .
He further appealed to all the CSOs to provide their support in conserving the rivers for the future generations.
As part of the event, Lion Dr W Gopimohon Singh also flagged off a cycle rally from Heirok Part-II Mayai Leikai ground.
The rally went to various parts of Heirok before culminating at Heirok Part-II Chinggol Community Hall.
