Imphal, September 25 2022:
A 23-day long training programme on 'Maram Nungsetpa Khousha', organised by Kanglei Saktam Langba Kanglup as part of its Golden Jubilee celebration, culminated on Sunday.
The closing function was attended by Cultural Workers and Activists' Forum, Manipur president Buddha Chingtham as chief guest, Kanglup advisor Ngangom Norendrajit as president and Department of Art and Culture deputy director J Dharmadas Sharma as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Buddha Chingtham pointed out that often times, artistes happen to be simple minded people from humble background and noted that the Art and Culture Department has been working hard to guide these sincere and selfless artistes.
He then informed that a cultural programme will be held at Tamei on October 4 followed by similar programmes in other hill districts of the state as well.
There is the need to discern the state of culture in Manipur, he said, while urging for concerted efforts for development of the different dying art forms.
Delivering the keynote address, the director of Kanglei Saktam Langba Kanglup highlighted the important role played by the state's culture, while stressing the need for examining the relationship between cultural identity and the audience.
The training programme has helped in instilling some cultural knowledge amongst the children amidst the tuition culture of the state.
Although 23 days are not enough to completely learn 'Khoushaba', the director said that 'Khoushaba' is a different and important type of cultural asset, practised since the time of kings.
It is important to preserve and understand this practise, the director said, adding that a civilisation without culture is as good as dead.
