ST demand continues

Showing solidarity to the movement being initiated by Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur (STDCM) to include Meetei/Meitei in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list of the Constitution, sit-in protests were staged at three different localities, today.
The protest demonstrations were staged at Thongju Pheijaleitong Maibi Lampak; Langol Ningthou Leikai and Wangoo Nongmaikhong, Sugnu.
The sit-in at Thongju was organised by Thongju Local Development Society and Thongju Maibi Lampak Meira Paibi Lup.
During the demonstration, the protesters chanted slogans in unison, urging the State Government to send the ethnographic and socioeconomic reports of Meetei/Meitei to the Centre so as to save the ethnic group by incorporating it in the ST list of the Constitution.
At Wangoo Nongmaikhong, convenor of Co-ordinating Body of STDCM, Laishram Romesh Meetei said that the Meetei/Meitei will surely disappear one day if the group is not given the Constitutional protection sought by the people.
The sit-in protest staged at Langol Ningthou Leikai was jointly organised by Langol Youth Development Club, Chingmi-Tammi Apunba Lup, Women's Development & Cultural Foundation and Welfare Organisation, Langol.
