Governor, CM, others greet on Chaoren Houba, Navratri

Governor La Ganesan, chief minister N Biren and MAHUD minister Y Khemchand have extended greetings to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Mera Chaoren Houba and Navratri which falls on September 26 .
In his message La Ganesan said that the traditional festival of Mera Chaoren Houba, a festival for preserving and promoting unity and integrity amongst all the communities settled in Manipur is celebrated on the advent of Mera-tha (month of September-October).
This festival through the ages has withstood the test of time and has become a rallying point for the state's unity and integrity, he said.
Regarding Navratri, the Governor urged the people to celebrate the festival with devotion and spend time on introspection and character building.
He said that the 9-day period should serve as a reminder to see divinity in each individual human being, especially the girl child.
Meanwhile, CM Biren said that Mera Chaoren Houba is celebrated to preserve and promote unity amongst all communities of Manipur on the first day of the lunar month of Mera.
"I have a firm belief in the oneness and brotherhood of all communities in the state, and this festival holds a special significance for each one of us as it teaches us to live in perfect harmony", the CM said.
According to MAHUD minister Y Khemchand, Mera Chaoren Houba is an ancient Meitei religious festival, dedicated to Lord Lainingthou Sanamahi, the supreme deity of the household, and Leimarel Sidabi, the goddess of earth, nature, and mother goddess of all creations in the entire Universe.
