Folk Drama Fest concludes

The 8th All Manipur Folk Drama Festival 2022-23, organised by Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) under the sponsorship of Ministry of Culture, culminated at the auditorium of the Union, Yaiskul Police Lane, here, on Thursday.
In all, 8 theatre groups participated in the festival, which began from March 19.Presided over by MDU president Soraisam Keshoram, the valedictory function was attended by MAHUD minister Yumnam Khemchand as chief guest and AIR, Imphal head (Programme) Adhikarimayum Geetchandra Sharma as guest of honour.
In his speech, minister Khemchand said that folk drama is the mirror of our cultural identity.
As such, there is the need to preserve the proscenium theatre of Manipur, which is being threatened by shortage of audience and emergence of new platforms including electronic and social media.
In addition, the auditoriums of various theatre groups including requisite infrastructures are not up to date and are need of much renovation.
Thus, he assured of extending all possible help in this regard.
As part of the closing function, Blooming Cultural Academy of Performing Arts en thralled the audience with its play, "Henjunaha" .
