Kangpokpi, March 23 2023:
A tribal consultative meeting organised by All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) to discuss the demand of Meetei/Meitei and Meitei Pangal communities for inclusion in the ST category has unanimously reaffirmed opposition to the ST status demand of the Meetei/Meitei and Meitei Pangal.
It also endorsed for ATSUM to continue pursuing the matter and chalk up action plans to consolidate the voice of the people.
The tribal consultative meeting, chaired by senior tribal leader Ngachonmi Chamroy, was held at Amity Hall, Adimjati Complex here on Thursday.
ATSUM president Paotin-thang Lupheng delivered the keynote address of the meeting, which was attended by various prominent tribal leaders including apex organisation leaders, women and student leaders.
After a thorough discussion, the tribal leaders reaffirmed their support to the causes which ATSUM is championing for the people.
Members from different hill districts also expressed their well-founded fear and anxiety that if the ST status is granted to the Meetei/ Meitei and Meitei Pangal communities, it will open a flood-gate to further exploit the scheduled tribes in Manipur.
Further, the meeting also endorsed the ATSUM to continue pursuing the matter and chalk out action plans to consolidate the voice of the people.
