Awareness programme on food fortification held

Food Safety Administration Thoubal today organised a training cum awareness programme on food fortification for staff and employees of various departments at the Conference Hall of CMO Thoubal.
Speaking on the occasion, Designated Officer, Food Safety Administration Thoubal, Yumnam Satyajit stated that food fortification will increase the nutritive value of the food.
He shared that micro nutrients like iron, vitamins, minerals and iodine are added to various food items like milk, salt among others.
He also urged the trainees to use fortified foods which have +F logo on the cover of the food items.
"The world is witnessing changes rapidly and the time we live in today is very different compared to the earlier days.
With the faster rate of development and subsequent changes in the environment, people are suffering from many new kinds of diseases.
Most of the diseases are caused by malnutrition and to prevent such health problems food fortification is being taken up", said Dr Y Nokul Singh, CMO Thoubal.
Staff of mid-day meals of School Education and Consumer Affairs Food & Public Distribution also took part in the programme.
