Imphal, March 23 2023:
War on Drugs and Deforestation Campaign Committee, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Kendra organised a sensitization program/meeting today at a community hall in the vicinity of Hiyangthang Kangjeibung.
It may be noted that this is the second installment of the sensitization program which focuses on deforestation and War on Drugs organised by the Campaign Committee.
The first installment was held at Malom Bazar on March 18 .
The program was attended by S Silasana, Member, Hiyangthang Zilla Parishad; Th Lalmani, senior citizen; Birendra Yumnam, president, BJP Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Mandal; P Kalpana, Member, Hiyangthang Gram Panchayat and Huirem Joy, in-charge of Hiyangthang Campaign Committee as the presidium members.
Delivering the keynote address, Laishram Kulachandra, convenor, Campaign Committee stated that in the recent Assembly session, all MLAs of the State had resolved to support the War on Drugs campaign launched by Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
"In Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC, under the supervision of MLA S Kebi, the Campaign Committee was formed to support the War on Drugs mission and to curb deforestation", he added.
Following the second installment of the sensitization program held today, more programs will be conducted across the AC in the future, he maintained.
Laishram Kulachandra also shared the Campaign Committee's plans to organise mass tree plantation drives at Heibok hill, Langthabal Phuramakhong hillocks and other sites.
Addressing the gathering, S Silasana stated that the War on Drugs campaign and movement against deforestation led by the Chief Minister is a vital step to safeguard the future generations.
Referring to the formation of the Campaign Committee under the leadership of MLA S Kebi, he opined that everyone should support this move irrespective of their political differences.
He further expressed doubt about the future of the coming generations if people now do not lend their support to this movement.
In the past, there was a great movement launched by the "Meira Paibis" against the use of narcotic substances.
Sadly, in the present, one only hears about it when elections are approaching, which points at the diminishing momentum of this movement, he claimed.
The ZP Member urged the Meira Paibis to come forward and help in eliminating the scourge of narcotic substances.
Further he appealed to people to make Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC free from drug menace.
