Imphal, March 23 2023:
Raising objection to the attempt to "erase" Tombisana High School and construct a market in its place, the School's Managing Committee has drawn the attention of the state government to halt all such attempts immediately.
Addressing a press meet held at Manipur Press Club, here, on Thursday, Committee president T Rajen Ayangba said that Tombisana High School is part of Manipur's history, which was relocated from Old Assembly Road to Khoyathong after getting upgraded to a government-aided school.
At that time, an agreement was signed stating that no works could be taken up in the old campus and will continue to function as school.
In 2014, the then Congress government violated the agreement and forcefully stationed security forces in the campus without the permission of the School Committee.
As the situation escalated to demolishing the school and constructed a market in its place, the Committee filed a case, which has been ongoing for more than 10 years, at Manipur High Court, he conveyed.
Stating that the land deed of Tombisana High School is currently in the hands of the Committee, which has also been paying the land tax to the government till date; Rajen condemned the blatant acts being carried out while the case is still being heard in the High Court.
As such, he appealed to the people to help save the school, which has been an integral part of Manipur's history.
