JCILPS urges for screening non-locals

Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) convenor Phulindro Konsam has stated that efforts relevant steps are being taken up to facilitate the state government and the authority concerned conduct verification of the Voter-ID and Aadhaar Cards of non-locals/non-Manipuris.
On Thursday, a JCILPS team led by Phulindro Konsam carried out ILP pass verification drive for non-locals at Paona Keithel.
Speaking to newspersons in this regard, Phulindro informed that many people setting up shops in the major markets of Imphal carry voter and Aadhaar cards with the domicile based in the state.
As such, the Committee is pushing for the state government and the authority concerned to carry out a verification drive to ascertain the authenticity of the voter and Aadhaar cards in their possession, he conveyed.
Regarding the ILP drive carried out at Paona Keithel on Thursday, the convenor said that the drive was conducted to determine whether the non-locals are possessing valid ILP passes or not, and also to find out whether they had entered the state legally.
Anyone found possessing invalid or expired passes will be dealt with in accordance to the law, he said.
He then informed that similar drives will be carried out in other parts of Greater Imphal and remaining areas of the state.
