Imphal, March 23 2023:
Heisnam Sagei Apunba Lup on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, requesting him to allot a 2-acre land on the northern side of Haying (Ahing) Khongbal located in the campus of First Bn Manipur Rifles, for installation of Heisnam Lairembi Panthoibi Laishang and statues of Maharaj Gambhir Singh and Maharaj Narsing, Addressing a press meet held in this regard at Manipur Press Club here on Thursday, Heisnam Sagei Apunba Lup president Heisnam Kullachan-dra said that a Kullup (colony) of Heisnam Clan used to reside in the said area of Haying (Ahing) Khongbal in the olden days.
However, after the Anglo-Manipuri War in 1891, the then British government drove away the residents for security reasons.
This is a non-dismissible historical fact, he contended.
Kullachandra continued that in 1828, Maharaj Gambhir laid the foundation stone in the northern area of Haying (Ahing) Khongbal for construction of a shrine of Meisnam Lairembi (Lairemma of Heisnam Clan).
Later in 1846, Maharaj Narsing laid the foundation stone for construction of a shrine of Ima Panthoibi.
All of these are recorded in history.
Thus, the memorandum was submitted to the chief minister, requesting for giving a land area of 2 acres at the aforementioned location for installation of Heisnam Lairembi Panthoibi Laishang and statues of Maharaj Gambhir Singh and Maharaj Narsing, he said, while expressing firm belief that the government will agree to the request.
