Sit-in staged against IMC's order

Imphal, December 17 2022:
Denouncing the order issued by Imphal Municipal Corporation (1MC) with regard to operation timings for street vendors in Khwairamband Market; members of Roadside Vendors' Welfare Association, Young Women Street Vendors' Association, Ima Panthoibi Sana Keithel Temporary Market and Ima Leisana Street Vendors' Welfare Union (ILU) jointly staged a sit-in protest at the Temporary market, here, on Saturday.
During the sit-in, the protestors held placards inscribed with slogans like "Respect street vendors", "Don't limit vending timing", "Withdraw IMC order", etc.
Speaking on the sidelines, Roadside Vendors' Welfare Association general secretary Kiranmala Thongbram highlighted that the streets vendors live by on daily income they could earn from selling their goods.
As such, she demanded the order issued by IMC on December 13 for rotational vending be withdrawn at the earliest.
She continued that when the vendors met MAHUD minister Y Khemchand in this regard, there were driven back with verbal insults.
As such, she strongly condemned the conduct and attitude of the minister towards the hapless street vendors.
