Drugs worth Rs 6 cr seized

Trafficking of drugs has become a routine affair in Manipur as brown sugar and heroin worth over Rs 6 crore were seized by security forces from different parts of the State in less than 24 hours.
While Kakching police arrested two persons along with 1.015 Kg of heroin worth over Rs 2 crore in the international market from Pallel Chingjin along Imphal-Moreh road today, Assam Rifles of Tengnoupal Battalion seized 2.16 Kgs of brown sugar worth around Rs 4.2 crore from a mobile vehicle check post at Tengnoupal, yesterday.
The two persons arrested by Kakching police have been identified as Thangsuankhup (34), s/o Suankhanhang of Muallum village and Luanngihlun (44), w/o Khambiaklal of ZMA Road, Vengnuam, Churachandpur district.
According to police, the heroin was brought in a Tata Sumo bearing Manipur registration number and it came from Tengnoupal side.
After signalling the vehicle to stop for verification, the police team seized 55 soap cases and two water bottles containing heroin powder concealed in a modified fuel tank of the vehicle, the source said.
The driver of the vehicle, Thangsuankhup and occupant Luanngihlun were arrested by observing all formalities.
The arrested persons have been handed over to Kakching police station along with the seized items.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by IGAR (S) said that the brown sugar they seized was being transported in a white Mahindra Bolero.
The statement, however, didn't mention the particulars of the person (s) who brought the drug.
Saying that the seized brown sugar were packed in 49 soap cases, it added that the drug peddlers have been handed over to Tengnoupal police along with the brown sugar.
