Imphal, December 17 2022:
The Assam Rifles authorities have strongly condemned the report published by media about AR personnel allegedly assaulting an Assistant Commandant of the BSF at Tengnoupal check post yesterday.
"The fact of the matter is that all individuals irrespective of their rank and status are shown utmost respect and regard by the Assam Rifles troops deployed at the check post.
The said individual was already behaving in a 'hot headed' way even before he parked the vehicle at the check post.
He reversed the vehicle rashly and hit the electric pole and the surveillance cameras installed on it.
When the damage was indicated to him, he and his wife went on verbal diatribe against the JCO in charge of the check post, and without any reason or warning, hit the JCO on his face.
The JCO, who was performing bonafide military duty was obstructed from performing his duties in an active counter insurgency area.
The JCO despite being in uniform was hit in full public view and in front of his troops.
He suffered a cut on his lips and had to be given stitches," said a statement of the IGAR (South) .
Even the lady (wife) 'punched' a Riflewoman.
The AR authorities strongly condemn the printing of baseless and defamatory articles against its jawans, who actually have been wronged, it said.
