Activist vows to fight for rights of deaf-blind people

Sense International (India) advocacy officer and India's first deaf-blind physiotherapist Shruti Lata Singh has vowed to fight for rights of deaf and blind people and highlight critical issues confronting them.
Shruti Lata attended the state level training on deafness organised by DbRC Shishu Sarothi in collaboration with CCI and supported by Sense International India at Malsawm Ability Centre, Churachandpur on Saturday.
As resource person of the training session, the activist talked about challenges she faced being a woman with progressive deaf-blindness which keeps getting worse.
"Being a woman with deaf-blindness is a bigger challenge as I could not go out alone but hope to overcome this someday," she said.
According to Shruti Lata Singh, she has not been able to see and hear what other say in the past but regained some ability to see a little less than 5 percent and able to speak too now and accordingly able to fight for the rights of people with deaf blindness.
She said that her elder brother also is having deaf and blind condition and the most problem they face is communication.
Shruti Lata Singh further said that she faced discrimination due to communication problem and the society is not ready to accept her.
She also said she completed class 12 in mainstream school and was not supported well in the school where she studied.
