Pongringlong sets deadline for paying land compensation

Imphal, December 17 2022:
Residents of Pongringlong (Charoipangdongba) village have threatened to launch intense form of agitations if the compensation for the land acquired to widen and development the Imphal-Jiri Road is not paid within 5 days.
Talking to media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Saturday, Thoudei secretary of Pongringlong village Gaikhangjang Gangmei informed that officials of the state government inspected areas around Pongringlong village which falls under the jurisdiction of SDO Kangchup Geljang in Kangpokpi district for the road project in August 2021 and the process was completed in March 2022.However, instead of paying the land compensation of the villagers, a team of the department again visited the area for verification process which is not acceptable, he asserted while informing that the road project has been completed but the land compensation still pending.
Gaikhangjang then urged authority concerned to provide the land compensation within 5 days failing which intense form of agitations would be launched by the villagers along with civil society organisations.
He also appealed to the chief minister to intervene and solve the issue at the earliest.
In a statement issued on Friday, Pongringlong (Charoipan-dongba) Village Authority condemned the spot verification conducted by SDO Kangchup Geljang in connection with land compensation process in-spite of the fact that such exercise was opposed by the villagers.
According to Pongringlong VA chairman Ning-toulung Daimei, it is not against the government verification but would not tolerate any agenda to create divisions in the village.
