Imphal, December 17 2022:
Assam Rifles has termed as baseless reports published in local print media on Saturday about mistreatment of a BSF assistant commandant at an AR Check Post in Tengnoupal.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) asserted that the manufactured allegations however could not be further away from the truth.
The fact of the matter is that all individuals irrespective of their rank and status are shown utmost respect and regard by the AR troops deployed at the Check Post.
The said individual was already behaving in a hot headed way even before he parked the vehicle at the Check Post.
He reversed the vehicle rashly and hit an electric pole and the surveillance cameras installed on it.
When the damage was indicated to him, he and his wife went on verbal diatribe against the JCO in charge of the Check Post and without any reason or warning hit the ICO on his face, the PRO said.
The PRO continued that the JCO, who was performing bonafide military duty was obstructed from performing his duties in an active counter insurgency area.
The JCO despite being in uniform was hit in full public view and in front of his troops.
He suffered a cut on his lips and had to be given stitches.
The couple continued with their rant and name throwing.
Even the lady tried to throw punches and had to be separated by an AR riflewoman.
She lunged and managed to deliver a couple of punches on the riflewoman, when she was being taken away from the melee, the PRO claimed.
The PRO asserted that the allegations levelled by the individual and the defamatory story covered in certain media houses can be clearly proven wrong with the video recording available and shared by some media houses.
The Assam Rifles authorities strongly condemn the printing of baseless and defamatory reports against its jawans, who actually have been wronged, the PRO further emphasised.
