Imphal, December 17 2022:
While asserting that UCM will never accept Kukiland or greater Nagaland demand being raised by some communities, United Committee Manipur (UCM) president Joychandra Konthoujam asserted that it is ready to sacrifice and fight together with the people against any attempt to distort territorial integrity of Manipur.
Addressing media persons at UCM office, here, on Saturday, Joychandra said that Manipur existed as an independent kingdom (nation) with proud history of more than 5,000 years.
After becoming a part of India, numerous attempts were made by Government of India to disintegrate Manipur at the behest of some vested interest communities.
However, UCM being formed with the voice of the people as an apex organisation to fight against any attempt to distort territorial integrity of Manipur will fight against any community which tries to harm peaceful co-existence among the different communities in the state.
Some communities raised their demands to the Government of India in written form and do whatever they want instead of discussing development issues but UCM will never accept such demands, Joychandra reiterated, while appealing to all concerned not raise such demands anymore.
People of Manipur have already acknowledged intensity of people's movement and if the need arises UCM is ready for second phase of June 18 Uprising, he warned.
According to Joychandra Konthoujam, some 'brothers' of the land raised Kukiland or Greater Nagaland with the idea of having two administrations within the state but UCM will never accept such demands and Manipur shall exists as Manipur all the time.
What the UCM wants is collective survival of all the indigenous people of the land who have been living together since time immemorial and the committee's motto 'Peace, Unity and Integrity' sums up it all.
Those demanding Kukiland could demand the same from either Mizoram or Myanmar and those demanding greater Nagaland from Nagaland state, he said and maintained that UCM stands tall for protecting the land preserved by blood of forefathers of the land.
While maintaining that UCM firmly believes in peaceful co-existence of all the communities of Manipur, Joychandra appealed to all concerned to stop separatist agenda.
He also said that no demand could be met without discussing the same within the family and raising demand to government of India or Manipur government without discussion among indigenous communities of the land would never succeed.
He further said that UCM will forever stand against any community which tries to distort territorial integrity of Manipur.
