Another IDP dies in relief camp

Kangpokpi, May 29 2023:
One more internally displaced person (IDP), who had been taking shelter in a relief camp at Keithelmanbi Military Colony in Kangpokpi district, passed away on Mon-day.
The deceased identified as Khaipao Haokip (63) from Sa-heibung village, is suspected to have died due to cardio -re-spiratory failure and chronic kidney disease.
According to his cousin, they left their village after a group of Meetei people burnt the village on May 7.Since they left the village, the deceased could no longer have dialysis which accounted for his death.
The cousin recalled that the day when they left their village and hid in the jungle, his broth-er was already in a critical con-dition but they were helpless as they could not go to hospital for his dialysis anymore.
He continued that even after they were evacuated to Kang-pokpi and sheltered in a relief camp, despite all efforts, they could not give him dialysis ow-ing to the crowd waiting for the same at District Hospital, Senapati, the nearest hospital where dialysis is available.
"We were waiting for our time for the dialysis next week, but, before our time came he left us," he said.
The deceased's wife said, "I had no hope anymore for his survival when I failed to avail him the dialysis he needed on time" .
"I am deeply in pain as I could not take him home and bury him in our village, but, I am sincerely grateful to the peo-ple of Keithelmanbi Military Colony for their generosity and kindness for allowing us to bury my husband in their village," she said.
f The body of the deceased was r buried at Keithelmanbi by Kei-thelmanbi Solam Baptist Church with the permission of Keithel-, manbi Village Authority later in I the evening after a condolence service was held at Keithel-manbi Solam Baptist Church , premises where hundreds of people paid their last respect.
Khaipao Haokip is the second I IDP who died while staying in ; a relief camp.
Earlier, 73-year-old Dalkhu-mang Gangte, from Longpi vil-lage, who was evacuated on I May 7, passed away on May 18 r at Kangpokpi town.
