Imphal, May 29 2023:
Demand for divi-sion within the state is not a new thing as some political classes have been raising the same over time and it is a failed theory, said BJP Manipur Pradesh spokes-person and social activist Johnson Elangbam.
Addressing a press meet on Monday, Johnson said that he will join force with the public if any element threatens the territorial integrity of Manipur while opining that tribal com-munities have major role to play to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
He said that all indigenous communities of the state should stand for the unity and integrity of Manipur.
Remaining silent when aggressive elements are threatening the territorial integrity of the state will not help in upholding the emotional integrity of the people, Johnson said.
He also pointed out that the Meetei community nev-er tried or thought of sup-pressing any community in the state, which is why even smaller communities with around 500 to 600 popula-tion are still living peaceful-ly.
There have been demands for separate administration or division within the state but that is unacceptable.
People want to uphold the territorial integrity of the state and he will join force with the public to protect the same.
He further said that this is the first time in the history of Manipur that people of Meetei community are fac-ing such huge displacement due to violence perpetrated by another community.
This should be the lesson for ev-erybody in order to uphold the unity and territory of the state, he said.
Expressing concern over the reports of illegal immigrants among the armed Kuki militants, he stressed the need for proper investigation.
Demand for identification of illegal mi-grants is not a new thing in the state as the people have been raising the demand since the 80s, he said while stressing the need for NRC update.
