Kakching, May 29 2023:
Peace Committee Kakching has appealed the Union Home Minister to bring about a solution that will not hurt either community or the integrity of the State.
Peace Committee Kakching vice president Yengkhom Nilachandra made the statement during a press conference held today at Grace Cottage Academy relief camp.
Commenting on the violence which erupted at Sugnu and Serou areas from the wee hours of yesterday, the vice president stated that the Committee has set up a new relief camp at Victory High School to accommodate the displaced families fleeing from the strife-torn areas.
Yesterday alone, 234 people showed up at Victory High School relief camp.
As the school did not have enough facilities to accommodate more than 200 people, the displaced families were shifted between Victory High School and Grace Cottage Academy relief camp.
Altogether there are about 361 people sheltering at the two relief camps, he shared.
Adding that Committee volunteers are tirelessly engaged in tending to the needs of the displaced families, he stated that in view of the continuous arrival of displaced families, the Committee has set up their third and fourth relief camps at Konggoi Community Hall located at Kakching Wairi Konggoi and Kakching Public School (KPS) located at Kakching Khunyai.
Currently, there are 80 inmates at KPS and 28 at Konggoi Community Hall, he said.
Reverting back to the Home Minister's visit, Yengkhom Nilachandra has urged the senior political leader to bring about a far-sighted solution that will not cause harm to either the Meitei or Kuki communities and ensure that the State's integrity remains intact.
The vice-president also prayed for the ongoing conflict to be resolved at the earliest.
