Thoubal, May 29 2023:
Thoubal District Hos-pital (D1-1) medical superinten-dent Dr W Ruhinikumar has appealed to all concerned, the agitating public in particular, not to target ambulances and its service personnel as both are working to save lives amid the restive situation.
Addressing the media at his office on Monday, Dr Ruhini-kumar stated that three ambu-lances of the DH and Thoubal CMG were utilised for trans-portation of those injured during Sunday's clashes in Sugnu and Thoubal areas.
The ambulances broil* the injured from Sugnu side to the Thoubal DR from where the seriously injured were re-ferred to hospitals in Imphal and taken in the ambulances.
However, around 10 pm, an ambulance which was returning after dropping a patient to RIMS Hospital was stopped by a mob at Kakwa area, he informed, adding that some from the group threatened the ambulance team, detained them for around one hour and even vandalised the ambu-lance vehicle.
If the police had not inter-vened, the situation could have been worst.
Hence, at a time when the state is facing a volatile situation, the pub-lic should act with maturity and not threaten ambulance drivers who are discharging their duty, he explained and pointed out such unwanted incidents might demoralise ambulance service personnel across the state.
Dr Ruhinikumar further stated that if anyone has any suspicion they can search the vehicle but cause no damage or threaten the personnel.
