Imphal, May 29 2023:
Boxing world cham-pion Laishram Santa Devi has stated that the present issue that Manipur has been unfortunately facing is be-tween two particular com-munities and not between Meitei Hindus and Christians as it is being portrayed by the national media.
Speaking to the DIPR, L Sa-rita said, "It is heart-breaking to witness Manipur, which is known for being a harmonious and very peaceful land, facing unprecedented violence.
Ma-nipur will be reduced to such a sorry state is beyond my wildest dreams.
Our lives have been drastically affected and disturbed.
As a player, 1 always dream of Manipur as a drug-free peaceful society for our youths." She further conveyed that it is very unfortunate for the rest of the world to see the ongoing crisis as a clash be-tween Hindus and Christians or Meitei Hindus against the tribals and the national me-dia should not portray the course of events from par-tisan outlook.
"It is quite common to have misunderstandings and issues between members of a family, and Manipur's present scenario should be treated like same.
But in-stead, portraying the issue as of Hindus versus tribals or Meiteis discriminating and torturing the tribals is very unfortunate," Santa said.
The champion boxer also expressed hope that there will be efforts to make amends between the two communities and mu-tual understanding will be brought through dia-logues.
She also appealed to the people from both the communities to calm down and hope for peace to prevail and to listen to each other's grievances.
