Three persons have been detained and questioned in connection with a video which has gone viral on Facebook about the Chief Minister's name being used to take money for Government jobs, said police.
Briefing media persons at the conference hall of his office today, Kshetrimayum Shivakanta Singh, Superintendent of Police, Imphal West said police have questioned three persons involved and concluded that the allegations mentioned in the video have been found without merit.
The three persons police picked were identified as Sorokhaibam Lukhoi alias Premjit Singh (50) of Kakwa Sorokhaibam Leikai, Naorem ongbi Manglem Devi (55) of Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai and Salam Kingson Singh (46) of Brahmapur Aribam Leikai, Imphal East.
The SP said during interrogation, it was revealed that on August 13 last, Lukhoi had visited the house of S Kingson at Brahmapur Aribam Leikai and the three of them had arguments over money.
Lukhoi had borrowed a sum of Rs 4 lakh from S Kingson in 2019 for business purposes.
He had also taken a total of around Rs 18 lakh on instalment from one Senjam Manglem (brother of Nongbi Manglembi) of Cachar during the last 2 years.
During the investigation, Manglembi clarified that in the heat of the arguments, without any connection, she had mentioned the name of Chief Minister.
Further, it is known that Manglembi has no family members who are applying or had applied for Government jobs.
Her brother in Cachar also has no family members who had applied for Government jobs.
Further, Lukhoi owes no money to Manglembi.
Moreover, Lukhoi has confirmed that he never used the name of Chief Minister while taking money from Senjam Manglem of Cachar.
He had only borrowed money from Manglem for business purposes.
Sorokhaibam Romesh, mentioned in the viral video, is his brother and he is not an employee of the Government and also has no relation with the Chief Minister, said the SP.
Asking people not to spread rumours, the SP urged people to approach the nearest police station if they have the proof and wish to file complaints of bribery and other related cases.
