Imphal, November 15 2022:
The Federation of Haomee (FOH) has urged the Government and its agencies to effectively check influx of illegal immigrants.
In a statement, FOH said despite Home Minister Amit Shah's recent tough stand and direction to identify infiltrators and deport them, no visible action is seen here in Manipur.
At a meeting with the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureaus (SIB) of all States on November 9, Home Minister Amit Shah had directed the intelligence officers to identify infiltrators and deport them.
Echoing the same, Governor L Ganesan had also stressed that illegal migrants would be identified and deported back home, it said.
The Federation of Haomee continued that till today, the Government has not taken any step to remove the names of illegal immigrants from the voters' list.
Before the last Assembly elections, as many as 1,500 "fake voters" were detected in Jiribam Assembly Constituency.
Moreover there has been a record increase in the number of new villages.
In 1947, there were only 453 Naga villages and 418 Kuki villages.
However, in 2021 it increased to 812 Naga villages and as many as 1,608 Kuki villages.
"This clearly indicates that there has been an increase in the influx of illegal immigrants." Further the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, the Government signed with some outfits based in Myanmar is proving to be a favour and an opportunity for illegal migrants to enter and settle in Manipur, FOH said.
The State Government should convert the words of Home Minister Amit Shah into action and identify all illegal migrants for deportation, said FOH.
