Imphal, November 15 2022:
Singjamei police arrested three individuals in connection with a viral video regarding alleged collection of bribe money by using Chief Minister's name on Monday.
The arrested trio, namely Sorokhaibam Lukhoi alias Premjit (50), son of late Shyamkishwor of Kakwa Sorokhaibam Leikai; Naorem ongbi Manglembi (55), wife of Naorem Pradeep of Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai; and Salam Kingson (46) son of late Ningthouremba of Brahmapur Aribam Leikai, have been bound down after all were produced before an executive magistrate.
Addressing a press conference at his office here on Tuesday, Imphal West SP Ksh Shivakanta informed that the trio was pulled up by Singjamei PS on Monday for questioning about the viral video.
Upon questioning, it was found that the trio had a heated argument at the house of Salam Kingson on August 13 over some debts.
Sharing details of the case, the SP said that Lukhoi took a loan of Rs 4 lakh from Kingson for his business in 2019 and another amount of about Rs 18 lakh from one Senjam Manglem from Cachar in the past two years.
Manglem is the elder brother of Manglembi, who also confided that during the heat of the argument, she used the CM's name with the hope of recovering the amount.
The SP informed that there is not a single government employee in Manglembi's and her brother's families.
Lukhoi did not use the CM's name when he borrowed the money from Manglem.
Sorokhaibam Romesh, elder brother of Lukhoi, who was mentioned in the viral video, was clueless about the issue and he does not have any sort of relation with the CM nor is he a government employee.
The whole situation was nothing but an act of using the CM's name to recover the loan money from Lukhoi during the heat of an argument, the SP said, while urging the public not to get involved in such acts or spread baseless video on social media.
Instead, one can file a report to the nearest police station if they have evidence of any foul play, he advised.
The police officer further informed that the trio was produced before an executive magistrate, which released them after being bound down.
