SIM card supplier sent to jail till Nov 29

Imphal, November 15 2022:
The Special Judge, Imphal West, Manipur (designated under Section 22 of NIA Act) on Tuesday remanded Mohammad Habibur Rahman (31) s/o Md Basiruddin of Mayang Imphal Bengoon, who was accused of supplying mobile phones and SIM cards to insurgents, to judicial custody till November 29.On Tuesday, Habibur Rahman was produced by police before the court with a prayer to remand him to judicial custody till November 29.During the hearing of the prayer, the case IO submitted that one 5 IRB personnel currently attached to Imphal West Commando made a report to City police station OC that reliable input was received of transporting some illegal items in Paona Bazar area on October 7.Based on the input, a team of Imphal West police commando conducted frisking and checking operation, wherein one Eeco Van (MN 03 P-4965) was halted.
On checking the inside of a van, a carton box containing one mobile handset, wireless buds and 66 SIM Cards were recovered.
On questioning four occupants of the vehicle disclosed that the SIM cards were being taken for use by insurgents based in Myanmar.
The four people, however, refused to reveal the identity of the supplier.
As the police investigation continued, Mohammad Habibur Rahman was identified as the supplier and he was accordingly arrested on November 6 .
During the hearing, counsel of the accused submitted a remand objection application.
The Court, after listening to arguments of both sides, remanded accused Habibur Rahman to judicial custody till November 29, while further directing the jail authority to provide necessary medical aid to the accused from time to time.
