All Manipur Candle Makers' Association con ducted its annual meet and drew attention of the state government towards the need for setting up a depot for paraffin wax in the state.
Association president Konthoujam Anandabi chaired the annual meet held at its office premises located at Chingmeirong on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, association secretary Karam Asnikanta informed it has provided hands on training to people in different parts of the state when they were facing financial hardships due to Covid-19 pandemic.
As a result, the state is now using candles produced in the state thereby saving possible outflow of huge fund, which would otherwise fill the coffers of other states or country.
However, price of paraffin wax, the main raw material for making candle, is increasing day by day following spike in fuel prices.
Besides, suppliers are manipulating the market price taking advantage of the ongoing bandh in Nagaland.
There were cases of candle makers losing money after depositing with fake suppliers of paraffin wax in other states.
Considering such inconveniences and importance of candle making in improving the socio economic condition of the state, he appealed to the government to set up a depot for paraffin wax in the state to ensure availability of the raw material at affordable rate.
