Imphal, March 30 2022:
Union minister of state for external affairs Dr RK Ranjan Singh has proposed to Union minister of railways Ashwini Vaishnaw for exploring feasibility of using the Guwahati to Khongsang railway line for supply of essential commodities, to ease the shortages in the state.
In a letter to send to the railways minister on Wednesday, Dr Ranjan mentioned that National Highway No 2 and 53 are arteries for supply of essential goods to Manipur.
They are Manipur's lifelines.
NH 2, entering Manipur from Nagaland is the preferred route for transporters.
However, for over one week, NH 2 has been blocked by some Nagaland based local organisations.
This has resulted in non-movement of private and commercial vehicles, thereby leading to acute shortages of essential commodities like petrol, diesel and cooking gas across Manipur, it noted.
Dr Ranjan further requested urgent action in this regard from the side of Union Ministry of Railways.
