Imphal, March 30 2022:
To commemorate the 1980 uprising (Go back Foreigners) against influx of outsiders, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) would be observing the 42nd Realisation Day on April 17 at the
Pishum Chingamacha (hillock) .
In a release, AMSU secretary general Bikramjit Thongam informed that a blood donation programme will be organised as a part of the (observance and urged the people to take part in the camp.
Bikramjit further urged against organising any festivities and entertainment programmes on the said day so as to commemorate the uprising and as a mark of respect to the two students who attained martyrdom during the uprising.
While seeking monetary aid or any kind of items which will be required in the observance from the people, he also urged the people to take part in the commemorative event.
Continuing the movement of yesteryears, people launched intense movement to protect the indigenes few years back.
As a result, ILP system has been implemented since January 1, 2020, though it was not as desired by the people and could not protect the indigenes effectively.
Despite implementing such Act, the continuous influx of outsiders and even inclusion in the electoral roll covertly by joining hands with some people has drastically affected the society.
As such, outsiders often play the decisive role in election in some assembly segments, Bikramjit contended.
Cautioning that the future of the state is uncertain as the indigenes might become minorities in their own land, he urged the indigenous communities to join hands and taken a firm stand for protecting the indigenes of the land.
