Mega Boxing: Kaping Hongchui, Thokhom Hemlet punch their way to gold medals

Imphal, March 30 2022:
Kaping Hongchui and Thokchom Hemlet Singh walked away with gold medals in the Mega State Level Open Boxing Championship 2022 on Wednesday.
Kaping Hongchui defeated Pheiroijam Nonglen Meitei in the final of the 54kg men's youth event while Thokchom Hemlet bested Md Musha Ahamad in their gold medal bout in the 63.5kg men's youth event.
In the 48 kg junior boys' event, Nandeibam Babychand Meetei overcame Chingangbam Agu Singh in their final duel.
Seven gold medal bouts were also decided in the sub junior boy's competition.
The boxers who shone in their respective final matches were Khaidem Sanatomba Meitei (-46kg), Jayraj Yengkhom (-58kg), Rakesh Konjengbam (-52kg), Laishangbam Uningba Khuman (-35kg/ walkover), Johnson Khoirom Singh (-55kg), Khundom Robert Singh (-40kg) and Sandhan Victor Singh (-49kg).The day also saw Lalmuan beat S Thang Hau Lun Zou to reach the 63.5kg men's elite final as Laishram Jamson Singh prevailed over Sorokhaibam Rokiyo in their -67kg men's youth semifinal match.
Leichombam Lamnganba Mangang also advanced to the 57kg men's youth final while Huidrom Griviya Devi earned a final spot in the -57kg women's youth event.
Finalists in the junior boys' and girls' competition were Mutum Nikison Meetei, Sneha Thangjam Chanu, Phurailat pam Herison Sharma, Esther Neipineng, Moirangthem Yaikhomba Singh, Alina Khaidem and Takhellambam Khambaton Singh.
Also, Ningthoukhong jam Dhanaraj, Kharibam Leishemba, Ningthoujam Chingkheinganba and Chirom Manithoiba Meitei progressed to the sub-junior finals in their respective categories.
