Kakching, March 30 2022:
While informing that Wangoo Tera high school is on the verge of extinction due to lack of government attention for a long time, Apunba Lup Wangoo has urged government to provide requisite infrastructures and send adequate teachers for school at the earliest.
Lup president Amom Joy told media persons that Wangoo Tera high school is the only government school in Wangoo which was established by the locals to extend education to local children.
The school was earlier known as Wangoo Laipham government junior high school but it was upgraded to high school in 2009 and named as Wangoo Tera high school since then.
Children of Wangoo and nearby villages study at the school from class I to X but it is degrading day-by-day due to lack of teachers and infrastructures.
In the year 2011, the school had only three teachers and 17 students but due to sincere efforts of local organisations and DESAM the school had 370 students in the year 2011-12.Students enrolled in the school increased to 480 in 2016 but enrolment de creased since then as school management could not afford to give Rs 3000 per month to hired teachers.
Due to prolonged neglect by the government, the school is now on the verge of extinction, Amom Joy said and urged government and local MLA to look into the school seriously and fill requisite infrastructures and provide adequate teachers.
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) secretary general Mayengbam Somorjit Luwang and other leaders of the students' body also took part in the press conference.
