Imphal, March 30 2022:
All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) , Manipur State Committee has urged truckers to leave Imphal - Dimapur road and operate on the NH-37 Imphal Jiribam section until the dispute in Dzuko Valley is solved.
In a release, AITUC state general secretary L Sotinkumar pointed out that the exorbitant prices of several goods and items in the state are because of the additional 'Dimapur' tax and other illegal goods tax collected by Nagaland based insurgents from truckers coming from other states and passing through Dimapur.
Such act is widely known among the businessmen in the state.
Moreover, insurgent groups collect illegal tax from them between Nagaland and Manipur Keithelmanbi out-post.
In addition to this, the price of essential items has been increased because of continuous hike of prices of petroleum products by the PM Narendra Modi-led government since 2017, he contended.
Adding more burdens to people because of hike of prices of essential items, the indefinite bandh called by Southern Angami Public Organisation along Imphal-Dimapur road has prevented the truckers from bringing in essential goods to the state, thus causing more problems, Sotinkumar pointed.
He further said that the state government should focus on developing Imphal-Jiribam road so as to counter the artificial price hike of goods in the state.
In addition to it, more police forces should be deployed to stop the insurgents from collecting illegal tax from the truckers.
Deployment of National Highway Protection Force could also mitigate the increasing prices of essential items in the state, he opined.
