Imphal, March 30 2022:
The United Bus Owners' Welfare Association (UBOWA) has urged the State Government to withdraw the Imphal-Mao Manipur State Transport (MST) bus service which was flagged off by Chief Minister N Biren Singh today.
Addressing a press meet at Thangal Keithel today, UBOWA general secretary B Dhanabir stated that the move of the State Government, though encouraging, is detrimental to private transporters as it will cut their source of income.
Claiming that MST was revived by the Chief Minister in 2017 and as per the agreement reached with the previous Government MST can provide bus service on only the routes which lack transport facilities, he said and added that over 100 buses are currently operating on Imphal-Mao, Imphal-Senapati, Imphal-Kangpokpi and Imphal-Motbung roads.
He further stated that UBOWA doesn't have any objection to MST operating its buses on Imphal-Jiribam, Imphal-Moreh, Imphal-Noney, Imphal-Tamenglong and Imphal-Pherzawl roads.
B Dhanabir then stated that about 1000 vehicles which are under UBOWA will stop its services if the demand is not entertained.
