Senapati, March 30 2022:
Unidentified persons placed two hand grenades at two compounds of a work agency undertaking the expansion works of NH-129 (Maram-Peren road) under Willong sub-division in Senapati district.
Both the grenades were found today morning near trucks which were parked within the office compounds of the agency, Hyderabad based company CSR located at Zinrok and Duigum near Sangkhungmei village.
Duigum is located 24 kms away from Maram NH-2 point while Zinrok is located some 30 kms away.
With heavy machineries and manpower in advanced phase of works, the said CSR Company has been expanding the highway since the beginning of last year which will be an alternate route to connect Manipur and Nagaland States when the main lifeline NH-2 fails.
Meanwhile, a police team from Maram Police station led by OC Jeremiah and 33 Assam Rifles located at Sangkhungmei rushed to the spot.
Another source informed that the State Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad along with a police team from Imphal has reached the spots to retrieve the grenades for safe disposal.
Notably, a similar incident had occurred on January 12 this year where two live grenades were also hurled into the office of the NHIDCL located at Zaikarii Christian Colony, Senapati DHQ which is executing the expansion of the existing Manipur's main lifeline NH-2 stretch.
Both the cases are suspected to be related to financial demands and threats from armed groups against those work agencies.
Civil bodies of Senapati district have been vocally condemning such acts of disturbing developmental works implemented in the district by different work agencies.
Moreover, Naga People's Organization (NPO) since past years had declared the district a "Peace Zone" while urging for developmental works to be executed without any disturbance from any organization or group.
Expressing resentment over the incident, the Sangkhungmei Village Authority has strongly condemned the cowardly and barbaric act of disturbing the road development and peaceful environment of the village areas.
It has asked the State Government to immediately book and punish the perpetrators involved in the incident.
The villagers stated that such beastly attempt to earn through threats and killing others has no place.
Any attempt to disturb the serenity and developments of the village will not be tolerated, it added.
