Imphal, August 18 2021:
Reacting to the cut-off mark notification issued for admission to government higher secondary schools, Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has demanded revocation of the notification and instead conduct online entrance test for the students.
MSF observed the notification seems intended to deny education to students securing low marks.
In a release, MSF stated that as students enrolled for Class X and XII examination 2020-2021 were promoted by BSEM and COHSEM respectively due to Covid-19 pandemic it is irrational for that some government higher secondary schools have issued cut off mark notification for UR, OBC, ST and SC students.
While noting that 47,208 students of Class X were promoted, MSF said that based on the criteria of internal assessment 47.29 per cent (22,323 students) passed in first division, 44.65 per cent (21,079 students) in second division and 8.06 per cent (3806 students) in third division.
As such the need of the hour is to increase the intake capacity of government schools rather than trying to victimise students who performed ordinarily in the internal assessment.
Despite the problems caused by Covid-19 pandemic, students have been trying to get admission in government schools with low admission fee as education is vital.
However, some government higher secondary schools have issued notifications for cut-off mark which rf implemented will deny students with low marks from getting admission, MSF reiterated and also lamented the notification has been compelling students to converge in large number amid the existing threat of Covid-19 .
While proposing that the government should conduct admission process through online, MSF also said it will conduct a survey of government higher secondary schools to check existing infrastructure.
