Imphal, August 18 2021:
BJP SC Morcha national executive member Khwairakpam Robin has urged the state government to look into the various grievances faced by the scheduled castes (SC) community of the state.
In a press meet held at Sekmai on Wednesday, Robin lamented that due to prolonged negligence by the government condition of the scheduled castes boys hostel located at Laipham Khunou has been deteriorating.
While informing that wall fencing of the hostel has been damaged and there were cases of robbery and burglary in the hostel, he drew the attention of authorities concerned to look into the matter and repair the only SC hostel in the state.
Robin also pointed out that proper maintenance of the said hostel is of enormous importance as it is only such facility for a large number of SC students who pursue education in different institutions in the capital city. While expressing hope that the authorities would construct a separate hostel for the SC girls, he urged the government to ensure establishment of the same at the earliest in order to enable the SC girls access quality education.
The BJP leader also regretted that SC students continue to face issues in availing scholarship benefits and pitched for allocation of separate cultural fund for the development of the minority community.
He recalled there used to be cultural programmes for SC but since 2017 no fund is earmarked for cultural activities.
He said cultural programmes groom the future pillars of the society is it enable them to understand and uphold own identity.
