Tributes paid to martyred AR, CREF personnel

Maram Battalion of Jwalamukhi sector/IGAR (E) carried out a wreath laying ceremony and paid tributes during observance of the 27th death anniversary of 18 brave soldiers of 3 AR of-COB Sankhumei and five GREF personnel, who laid down their lives on this day in 1994, when ambushed by NSCN (IM) near Yang Khunou on Maram-Peren Road.
Maram Battalion informed in a release that the soldiers were returning from routine patrol, when the vehicles of GREF and Assam Rifles were targeted and ambushed.
The brave hearts while fighting with the enemy laid down their lives for the ultimate cause and attained martyrdom, said the release, adding that the battalion commandant and commander of Sankhumei company along with the JE,GREF carried out the wreath laying at the war memorial.
The event was also attended by all troops of the company and GREF detachment at Sankhumei.
In his address, the commandant said that the supreme sacrifice made by the brave hearts in the line of duty is a source of inspiration for all the troops of Armed Forces as they fought bravely and laid their lives for the noble cause of maintaining peace and harmony in the region.
