Imphal, August 18 2021:
Union minister of state for external affairs Dr RK Ranjan has expressed hope that the much-awaited Imphal-Mandalay bus service will be launched soon.
He was attending an interaction session at the conference hall of Hill Tribal Council, Moreh after he reached the border town on the second day of his Jan Ashirvan Yatra on Wednesday.
The minister began his rally from Yaiskul Brahmapur and he was accorded warm welcome by BJP Mandals at different areas all the way up to Moreh starting from Langthabal Kunja.
Attending the felicitation function held at the HTC conference hall, RK Ranjan spoke about the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure tap water connection to every household by 2022 and assured that people of Moreh will also get the facility by next year.
He also urged the locals to submit details if any area is left out from the mission.
Regarding the Imphal-Mandalay bus service under Act East Policy, the union MoS said that the project was delayed due to geo-political instability in the neighbouring country and Covid-19 pandemic.
Agreements have been made with travel agencies and the government had issued tender for construction of 69 bridges along the international highway but it was delayed.
Fresh tender will be issued soon so that the much awaited bus service and other trade activities could be started at the earliest, he said.
Informing that the country has been able to export only 25 per cent of the trade volume under Act East Policy while the remaining 75 per cent are imports, Dr Ranjan noted that an effective policy is needed to increase the export volume and bring economic growth so that the state's economy could be boosted.
He also stressed the need for further study to develop Manipur as the gateway of India to the South East Asian countries.
Students and teachers of Moreh College also felicitated the union MoS for education at the college campus.
Later, he paid floral tributes to the statue of Kuki leader Chengjapao, and then interacted with members of different communities in front of Customs Preventive Force office, Moreh.
BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda, MLA L Rameshwar and ex-MP K Bhabananda accompanied the minister during the gratitude tour.
BJP Kakching Mandal also felicitated the union MoS on his way back from Moreh at Pallel, Kakching Khunuta Chingjin and Sora areas.
