Imphal, June 12 2022:
In view of the absence of any retirement benefit scheme initiated from the side of the government, Manipur Home Guard Employees' Welfare Association has launched its own retirement benefit scheme for the home guard personnel.
The scheme was launched during a programme held at Luwangsangbam Mayai Leikai community hall on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, association president Yanglem Mangi pointed out that the service period of a home guard member is 40 years.
Even after serving for such a long period, there is no retirement benefit for them.
Besides, they are facing various issues concerning their jobs, he said.
For the last two years, the association has been demanding the government to introduce pension scheme but the government has not taken up any concrete measures in this regard.
They have also filed a petition in the High Court of Manipur, he said while expressing belief that the government will do the needful for the welfare of home guard personnel.
The association came up with the scheme so that it could provide some lump sum amount to home guard personnel at the time of their death during service period or retirement.
The benefit will be provided from a small monthly contribution made by the home guard personnel, he revealed.
