Imphal, June 12 2022:
The ongoing construction of roadside drain from the Oriental College section to Keithelmanbi stretch of Imphal-Jiribam road by NHIDCL after leaving out the land acquired by government for widening of the road has been stopped as works minister Govindas Konthoujam inspected the work site on Sunday.
Minister Govindas and Patsoi MLA Sapam Kunjakeshore (Keba) visited the work site at Takyel and instructed NHIDCL officials to stop the work for leaving out half of the land acquired by the government for widening of the road.
Govindas told media persons at the site that government acquired enough land for widening of the Imphal-Jiribam road from the point of Oriental College to Keithelmanbi to the status of a 4-lane road.
However, construction of roadside drain by NHIDCL after leaving out half of the acquired land has rendered the acquired land valueless, he said and termed as unfortunate NHIDCLs attempt to withdraw money for the project by hastening the drain construction work though directed to stop the same.
Even if NHIDCL is working on 2-lane road widening work at present, there would be no loss and problem in construction of drain from the land acquired by government, he said, adding that proposal for widening of the road to 4-lane had been made to the Union ministry.
He also said that state PWD will inspect construction of roadside drain in Takyel area.
