Workshop on Manipuri classical dance concludes

The 20-day Workshop cum Production on Manipuri Classical Dance, organised by Lianda Folk and Classical Academy, Imphal under the sponsorship of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, culminated at JN Manipur Dance Academy here on Sunday.
The closing function was attended by Ranganiketan Manipur chairman Ajit Das as chief guest; Lianda Folk and Classical Academy VP Laishram Nabachandra as president and Cultural Worker and Activities Forum, Manipur chairman Budha Chingtham as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Ajit Das observed that the present state of Manipuri culture is distressing even though there is no other culture as rich as Manipuri culture.
He expressed his disdain of people imitating western culture and as such, urged all concerned to help protect the state's unique culture arid tradition.
On the dialogue between Sanamahi and Gouriya followers within the Meitei community, he remarked that the dialogue occurred due to divisive opinions of some groups.
He then said that the state would cease to exist if we continue to find faults of others and as such, called upon all to unite for promoting the good values and qualities of the Meitei community.
As part of the valedictory function, gifts were presented to the senior artistes and dance instructors of the Academy who took part in the workshop cum production as instructors.
Later, students of the Academy presented various cultural performances.
