Thoubal, June 12 2022:
As announced earlier, a number of people closed Thoubal MI Road today denouncing the alleged non resumption of a bailey bridge construction work over Thoubal River at Keibung.
Notably, five clubs in Lilong area have resolved to close the Thoubal MI Road indefinitely from June 12 onwards if the authority concerned does not resume the construction work of the bailey bridge by June 11 .
The five clubs are Unique Youth Development Association (UYDA), Keibung Youth Development Club, Keibung Wangmataba Social Development Organisation, Keibung Welfare Association and KWA & Development Centre for Health and Social Service at Keibung.
As per the protesters, they resolved to close the road stretch as the Government didn't give any response within the stipulated time.
The agitators also cautioned of launching more agitations if the Government continued to sideline their demand and not resume the bridge construction works.
Speaking to media persons, one of the protesters said that the construction of the bailey bridge was incorporated in the work programme of the previous Government under RIDF Scheme 2020-21 .
Saying that the project was implemented on March 16 last, he added that the project, however, has been suspended without giving any explanation.
He claimed that the project might be shifted to another site.
Continuing that the State Government and authorities concerned haven't given any explanation for the suspension of the project to date, the protester urged all concerned to look into the matter and complete the bailey bridge construction at the earliest.
Earlier, one of the locals of Keibung had claimed that the construction site is in a shabby condition due to the recent heavy rainfall.
