Union MoS assures upgrade of Loktak Lake

Union minister of state (MoS) for Home Affairs and YAS Nisith Pramanik on Sunday visited Loktak Lake accompanied by state's Youth Affairs & Sports (YAS) minister Govindas Konthoujam, Loktak Development Authority (LDA) chairman M Asnikumar Singh, YAS principal secretary SS Chhabra and other central and state government officials.
As part of the visit, Nisith Pramanik assessed condition of the INA H/Q & INA Memorial Hall Moirang, Water Sports Centre, Takmu, Chaoba Hill & Karang Island, Loktak lake and Sendra Tourist spot among others.
The minister also took part in a tree plantation programme at INA HQ, interacted with young water sports athletes at Takmu, took boat ride to Karang Island, where he interacted with some fishermen based in the lake.
Nisith Pramanik was visibly impressed by the allure of Loktak Lake and assured of all possible assistance from his end in parameters such as ecological restoration and conservation of the lake, improvement of livelihood of the communities dependent on the lake, upgrading water sports facilities, etc.
He also assured support and encouraged young water sports athletes of Takmu and expressed happiness on their exceptional performances at various levels since the last two decades.
On the other hand, YAS minister Govindas Konthoujam requested the union MoS for assistance in upgrading the facilities at Takmu Water Sports complex and proposed that the same centre be handed over to SAI at the earliest.
In response, Nisith assured of all possible assistance from YAS ministry and also proposed submission of detailed report from state YAS department at the earliest.
Mesmerised by the beauty of largest freshwater lake in the northeast, Nisith also assured that he would visit the lake again in the near future exclusively for a few days.
He appreciated chief minister N Biren and his team for accelerating development in the state and reserved special appreciation for redevelopment of the historic INA to new heights by the state government.
