Imphal, June 12 2022:
Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam has given a direction to demolish the drain being constructed along National-Highway 37 (Imphal-Jiribam road) under National Highway Infrastructure Develop- ment Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) .
The Works Minister and Patsoi AC MLA Sapam Kunjakeswor inspected the drain construction work at Tera area along NH-37 today.
Not satisfied with how the project is being implemented, the Works Minister directed the workers there to demolish the drain.
Speaking to the media, Govindas said that they themselves would remove the drain if the authority concerned fails to do so.
He continued that the State Government acquired a large area of land from the public so as to widen the highway stretch but the drain is being constructed after leaving out a large portion of land.

The Minister said that the drain is almost in the middle of the road stretch.
Continuing that the drain should have been dug at the edge of the road stretch so that it doesn't hinder future projects, Govindas said that the Government cannot acquire land from the public repeatedly but the drain can be constructed again.
Govindas continued that Chief Minister N Biren has been consulting with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to develop NH-37 as a four-lane highway.
Informing that most of the construction works of National Highways are being handled by NHIDCL, the Works Minister asserted that they (NHIDCL) will not be allowed to implement the project in such irresponsible manner as the people are the true owners of the roads and highways in Manipur.
He further said that the PWD would examine the works of NHIDCL.
Seeking support from the people, Govindas urged all to raise their voice if they come across any instance of improper implementation of projects and developmental activities.
To a query, Govindas said that the Government is preparing to evict some four-five houses at Nagamapal stretch.
The Works Minister further stated that the Government is preparing to obtain a package from the Central Government so as to repair the roads which were damaged by the recent heavy rainfall.
