Senapati, August 12 2021:
A one-day advocacy cum awareness programme on Covid-19 vaccination was held at Aphi Saliki, Senapati on Thursday.
The programme was organised jointly by the district's frontal organisations including Naga People's Organization (NPO), Senapati District Women's Association (SDWA) and Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) in collaboration with the state health department and the district administration.
Vumluanmang Vualnam, principal secretary Health & FW; Rang Peter, DC Thoubal; Dr Manihar, state immunization officer; Dr Jubilee, SNO (advocacy); Dr Rosie, SND (IEC) and Dr Apao, surveillance medical officer MPHSP - WHO were the guests of the day.
The main purpose of the programme was to clear doubts and confusion surrounding Covid vaccination that has led to comparatively low percentage of vaccination in the district.
Solomon Arow, president NPO, in his welcome address, expressed gratitude for the love and concern for people of the district and informed that although it was a small gathering due to Covid-9 restrictions delegates from the federating units of NPO, SDWA and SDSA including the five tribe presidents of Mao, Maram, Poumai, Thangal and Zeliangrong, town committee, and chairmen and secretaries of notified areas of district headquarters were present at the event.
He believed that keeping the participants of the awareness programme well-informed about Covid vaccination would ramp up vaccination coverage in the district as the NPO president mentioned that people of the region were confused by the misinformation served on social media.
Vumluanmang Vualnam, principal secretary Health & FW, said that most people are scared of what would happen after getting vaccinated and cautioned that it is the Delta variant that has caused many fatalities in the state.
He further said that the government encourages everyone to get vaccinated and it does not force anybody to take the Covid vaccine, but it is noteworthy that those vaccinated are safer from Covid.
During the interaction session, various questions raised by the participants were answered by resource persons.
Leaders of the district CSOs came forward and received their doses of Covid vaccine after the event.
