Senapati, August 12 2021:
United Naga Council (UNC) has said that it will oppose the celebrations of Independence Day in the "so called newly created controversial districts" on August 15 .
In a press statement issued Thursday, UNC said that it came across social media groups that "some administrators" officially circulated their programmes regarding the celebrations of Independence Day on August 15, while "imposing the public again in the so called newly created controversial districts".
The Naga body said that it has been opposing the celebration of Independence Day in these districts as "it is an insult and a provocation to the Naga people" .
The statement further said that the government of Manipur is doing this even though it is fully aware that the issue is still pending with the "tripartite talk" .
UNC asserted that it will not remain mute if the state government tries to "bulldoze" the issue at any cost.
The Naga body said that it "is all prepared to engage" the situation, no matter what may be the consequences.
It further said that the Nagas are not going to accept the move of the government.
UNC then directed "district apex organisations, women organisations, apex tribal hohos, student bodies, village chiefs, youth bodies in their respective districts to refrain from the imposed celebrations of 15th August in these so called districts" .
